Celebrate the Diamond Jubilee at Castle Cornet on Tuesday 5 June with Kings and Queens, Druids, famous singers from the past and a whole range of free family and children's activities.
The Castle will open its doors from 10am to a Royal Banquet Picnic Party where during the day visitors can see Elvis 'the King' Presley crooning while Frank Sinatra 'The King of Swing', will be serenading visitors in the afternoon, and The Queen of Hearts and the White Rabbit teaching croquet between 2‐4pm.
At the entrance to the Castle children will be presented with a special one‐off Jubilee activity trail, including an empty page to collect autographs of any famous characters they bump into during the day. Children will be able to make their own Tiara or Crown between 2‐5pm and join in with many different activities such as learning painting tips from the artistic Queen Victoria or playing the unpopular medieval King John at his favourite game, Backgammon. As part of the entertainment there will also be a traditional Punch & Judy show on the top lawn and Drama students from the Guernsey College of Further Education will also be performing.
The afternoon activities will be signalled by a spectacular 21 gun salute, which is sponsored and supported by Cannon Asset Management, and will this year will be fired by local residents born in 1952, the Jubilee year.
Jo Dowding, Museums Access and Learning Manager said:
'It is wonderful to be able to mark a milestone event in such a historic setting. We would like to see plenty of visitors and families joining in and having a great free, fun day out, there should be something of interest for many age groups, this will also be a great opportunity for visitors to bring along their own picnic to make a real day of it'.
