Treasury & Resource Minister Deputy Gavin St Pier was in London on Wednesday [13 September] for a programme of meetings to introduce the new Policy Council and States.
The trip included meetings with Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury, David Gauke MP, at HM Treasury. Deputy St Pier said:
"We had a very constructive conversation, and I am confident that we will have an effective working relationship. We both agreed that clearer communication would help ensure that the relationship remained constructive on both sides. We agreed to maintain direct dialogue, and for officers on both sides to do the same across the wide range of issues they are working on."
Deputy St Pier also met with other MPs - Conservative and Labour - to discuss taxation and finance issues, and to emphasise Guernsey's ongoing commitment to transparency and co-operation. Deputy St Pier said:
"The conversations were wide-ranging and constructive, but each of them gave the same advice - that we must continue to work hard to make our case clearly and consistently to policy-makers in Whitehall and Brussels."
