Shaun Andrew Lesbirel, a 35 year old local man, appeared before the Guernsey Royal Court on Thursday 6 December 2012. Lesbirel pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply the Class A drug MDMA, commonly known as Ecstasy and to the possession of Cannabis Resin, a Class B drug. Lesbirel was sentenced to eight years imprisonment for the MDMA offence and 12 months for the possession of Cannabis to run concurrently.
The total quantity of Cannabis Resin would have had a potential local resale value of between £200 and £250. The total quantity of MDMA would have had a potential local street value of between £17,415 and £23,220.
On 1 May 2012, as part of a drug trafficking investigation, the Guernsey Border Agency arrested Lesbirel. During a search of Lesbirel a clear plastic zip-lock bag containing 5.12 grams of Cannabis Resin was found in one of his pockets. Further searches conducted on Lesbirel's vehicles and home address found a total of 4.36 grams of Cannabis Resin and £1801.50 in cash. A search of one vehicle identified 1161 MDMA tablets in a Waitrose carrier bag concealed under some dust sheets.
Lesbirel was still on parole following a previous sentence for the importation of a controlled drug. In his summing up Judge Finch stated that Lesbirel was driven by stupidity and greed.
Lesbirel's sentence is to run from the date of his arrest.
