The Guernsey Earnings Bulletin monitors average earnings of employees in the Bailiwick (excluding Sark) and provides a headline analysis of trends in average earnings.
Dr Andy Sloan, States Economist, said:
"Average (median) earnings were flat in real terms, growing by 3.2% in nominal terms. This was of little surprise and reflects the prevailing economic conditions of 2012. That said, that earnings still grew in nominal terms is in many respects broadly positive, ensuring that wages at least kept in line with prices and helped ensure that earned income on the Island stayed broadly flat rather than demonstrating any significant decline. This suggests that any weakness in domestic demand from reduced spending last year was driven more by reduced confidence than by a lack of aggregate income."
