A public meeting on population management

Friday 24 May 2013

Far reaching proposals for managing the Island's population, potentially affecting every person on the Island, will be explained at a public meeting on the 3 June

The Chief Minister, Peter Harwood, said:

"Many members of the public will have taken advantage of the series of public meetings held throughout the Island in 2011 to discuss the new population management regime considered by the States at the end of the last term. The States is now moving towards the next phase of this process and will be asked at the end of June to sign up to 45 recommendations. These will form the starting point for new legislation and the introduction of a new regime which will replace the existing housing laws.

"Recognising that many people want to have a chance to have this report explained before the debate, we are organising an Island-wide presentation on 3 June."

The presentation will be held at the Beau Sejour theatre on Monday 3 June at 19:00.

The evening will involve a presentation covering the content of the States report and will include time for questions. The States report on Population Management can be found at the link below.

Further information

This report, if approved, will see a new law replacing the current housing control laws and the report recommends the retention of the Open Market largely in its current form.
