Bailiwick Drug & Alcohol Strategy 2015-2020 Stakeholder Consultation

Share this page

Monday 10 June 2013

The present Bailiwick Drug & Alcohol Strategy continues to tackle the issues of drug and alcohol misuse locally. However, misuse of drugs and alcohol still remains a major cause of ill health, social problems and economic costs to all the islands within the Bailiwick.

Partnership working with HSSD, Education and other States departments and the voluntary sector has supported achievement in drug and alcohol harm reduction to date. This partnership is essential to future success, as all have their part to play. Targeted drug and alcohol initiatives can contribute to reducing health inequalities.

The proposal is that the new Strategy still follows the vision of the previous one:-

'To minimise the harm caused by drug and alcohol misuse to Bailiwick residents of all ages.'

In developing the detail of the new 2015 - 2020 strategy, the Home Department and HSSD are seeking comments and ideas on the proposed 'scope' of the strategy work, which aims to produce a new plan to further reduce the prevalence of drug and alcohol misuse. A wide range of organisations and individuals have been invited to respond.

Paul Whitfield, Chair of the Bailiwick Drug & Alcohol Strategy Group stated;

"With the limited resources we have in tackling both drug and alcohol misuse in the Bailiwick, we want to ensure that the Strategy will provide the best possible service to the Community, in the most cost effective way. This is the ideal opportunity for islanders to voice their opinions and provide us with suggestions that will assist in shaping our new Strategy"

Interested parties are asked to make themselves and their views known to Andrea Nightingale in order to obtain further information about the discussion document.

Please request the discussion document from Andrea Nightingale andrea.nightingale@gov.gg and return any comments by email or post for the attention of Andrea Nightingale, Drug & Alcohol Strategy Coordinator, Sir Charles Frossard House, La Charroterie, St Peter Port, GY1 1FH by July 19 2013 so that they can be considered for inclusion in the new Strategy.

The document can also be found here along with further information about the Strategy.

Respondents' comments may be published anonymously in a feedback report that will be made available to the public.
