The States Parochial Ecclesiastical Rates Review Committee ('PERRC') continues to make good progress in order to give effect to States Resolutions of February 2012, clarifying the ownership of the Parish Churches, formally vesting most rectories in the Parish Constables, establishing Management Boards, and revising present laws concerning Parish Taxes.
Draft legislation is at an advanced stage, following a number of Committee meetings and one with representatives of the Guernsey Deanery. The Committee hopes to bring the draft legislation before a States Meeting in the first quarter of 2014, after further consultation with interested parties.
Deputy John Gollop, Chairman of the Committee, comments:
"I have been pleased with the smooth progress made so far in order to bring into law the quite complicated Resolutions on PERRC's report. This is down not only to the efforts of my Committee, but also to the pragmatic approach taken by the Deanery representatives, enabling the timely presentation to the States of draft legislation which will satisfactorily reflect the Resolutions."
