Media Enquiry from Helen Devonshire, Guernsey Press:
We have spoken to the police about the post on its Facebook page regarding concerns over skateboarders using the roads/street furniture and said that it was Environment who had originally received the complaints about it from islanders. It was to see if we were able to have a comment from the department on the issue?
Environment Department response:
The Department has received a complaint from a resident living in close proximity to the new skate park that skateboarders have been using public roads and pavements to skate towards the new facilities. This raises road safety concerns and can be quite noisy and hence the Police had been asked to remind skateboarders of the antisocial aspects associated with such behaviour and the fact that they could be committing an offence by skateboarding on the public highway if a road safety incident were to occur.
