The Islands Child Protection Committee (ICPC) is seeking a new independent Chairman to guide and promote the Committee's invaluable work.
The ICPC brings together representatives from across the States and voluntary sectors to ensure the strategic co-ordination of inter-agency child protection initiatives within Guernsey and Alderney. The current Chairman is reaching the end of his term of office, and the Chief Officer Child Protection Group is looking for an individual with the experience, energy and commitment to continue the invaluable work of the Committee over the next three years.
The post involves chairing the Committee's meetings, leading and developing the Committee's strategic direction and ensuring that effective governance arrangements are in place. Particular areas of responsibility include:
- Providing leadership to the ICPC, ensuring regular evaluation of its effectiveness;
- Providing an independent and impartial perspective to the Committee's work;
- Encouraging partner agencies to work effectively together;
- Being an advocate for safeguarding across Guernsey and Alderney;
- Being a champion for children and young people's safeguarding and ensuring that their views are sought and listened to;
- Ensuring that the ICPC meets its statutory responsibilities.
Individuals should be able to commit between 35 and 40 days per annum to the role.
Applicants should have considerable experience at a senior level within the public, private or voluntary sectors, with strong communication skills including the ability to confidently challenge existing practice. It would be advantageous, but not essential, if individuals have knowledge or experience of child protection issues.

The independent Chairman has the fundamental role of providing strong cohesive leadership whilst also providing an independent perceptive on the agencies' working practices. This is a challenging, but rewarding post, providing the successful applicant with a real opportunity to make a positive difference."
