Media enquiry from Luke Richardson, Guernsey Press:
I see from latest planning lists that States Works has submitted a retrospective application for five storage containers at the Fontaine Vinery site.
Given the publicity surrounding this issue at the end of 2011 and the fact that States Works has strong links with the States, why is this application only coming now?
Is this a fresh problem? Are there other units that will need retrospective applications?
Could the department please explain again why planning permission is needed for this site?
Environment Department's response:
The application in question was received on 12 November and was made valid on 27 November. The application form indicates that the development has already commenced.
Queries concerning the circumstances of the application should be directed to States Works. The Environment Department has no further information than that contained in the application.
Section 13(2)(e) of the 2005 Law relates to movable structures such as caravans and portacabins. Shipping containers can also amount to moveable structures which require permission under this section of the Law.
