Media enquiry from the Guernsey Press:
In yesterday's debate Deputy Trott claimed St Sampson's was the only parish paying for kerbside recycling, which was unfair. Can we have a response to this from the Department explaining the situation and how it has arisen?
Public Services Department's response
All parishes are being treated fairly and equally.
St Sampson's Douzaine approached the Department last year, as did other parishes, with a proposal to provide a kerbside collection service using their existing contractor. Public Services subsequently agreed to meet the additional costs of providing this service during the two year interim scheme.
The Department is also meeting the cost of the subsequent separation and processing of the recyclable materials.
The precise arrangements for recycling collections in each parish is a matter for their Douzaine and their contractor, because the collection contract is between those two parties. The Department has not made any changes to these.
