Thursday 17 April 2014

States Property Services is again appealing to a small number of friends or relatives who may have left tributes in a landscaped area at Le Foulon Cemetry to get in touch with the Department. A previous appeal met with very little success.

Works will shortly be taking place to re-landscape the central plantation in the Garden of Rest, where a number of plants need to be replaced. The new landscaping will see a grass seating area in the middle with a circular seat around a tree. Each end of the area will be planted with various flowers and different shrubs.

However, before works commence, a number of memorial plants, plaques or vases that have been left at the existing plantation will need to be removed so they are not damaged during the works. Grounds Manager for States Property Services, Nigel Le Sauvage, explains:

"A number of memorials have been left at the plantation without permission, so we have no record of who might have left or planted them there. We need to remove these before the works take place to ensure they are not damaged and want to make sure the relatives or friends involved know what we are doing beforehand.

"We very much appreciate how important the tributes are. We are trying to make every effort to contact the individuals involved beforehand so we can have an opportunity to discuss the matter with them, let them know what is happening and agree on where we will move the tribute."

Works are due to commence on Monday 28th April. Anybody who is responsible for a tribute or who knows somebody who is should contact Mr Le Sauvage at States Property Services on 717000 at Sir Charles Frossard House.
