The States of Guernsey have adopted sanction measures prohibiting the importation of goods originating in Crimea and Sevastopol and the provision, directly or indirectly, of related financing, financial assistance, insurance or reinsurance. All businesses are requested to check their records to ensure they comply.
The sanction measures were agreed by the European Council to introduce restrictions on the import into the Union of goods originating in Crimea or Sevastopol, in response to the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol. The EU implemented Council Regulation (EU) No 692/2014 on 23 June 2014. The prohibitions are subject to certain limited exceptions. Guernsey has implemented the provisions of these restrictive measures through the Crimea and Sevastopol (Restrictive Measures) (Guernsey) Ordinance, 2014, in order to ensure the Island's sanction regime is in line with international developments.
Businesses must:
- Check whether they have any business relationships, maintain any accounts or otherwise hold any funds or economic resources that relate to the activities prohibited by the EU Regulation.
- Report any findings to the Policy Council.
- Refrain from taking on or continuing any business which directly or indirectly supports the activities prohibited by the EU Regulation.
The Policy Council is the competent authority and licensing authority in relation to these sanctions. Any queries should be sent to sanctions@gov.gg subject line 'Crimea and Sevastopol sanctions'.
