Environment Department Response to media enquiry from Guernsey Press.
Guernsey Press Enquiry:
Can I get a comment from the department about why there was no site notice or public advertising in respect of Blacks Sign- it just seems a bit unusual.
Environment Department Response:
The revised proposals accord with advice and overcome the reasons for refusal of the previous application, now being in accordance with the relevant policies of the Urban Area Plan. In particular, the proposals will remove the existing projecting sign on Le Pollet and replace this with a more traditional hanging sign, suspended from a bracket. The high level sign to the rear, facing the Quay is also to be adapted to reduce its impact on the appearance of the building.
In these circumstances there is no requirement for the application to be advertised. The Environment Department is pleased that it has been possible to arrive at a mutually satisfactory solution which will help preserve the character of the historic core of our Town whilst meeting the legitimate needs of the retail occupier for advertising of their business. The Department is grateful to the applicant for agreeing to adapt its corporate style in a way which fits appropriately with the distinctive character of St Peter Port.
