Air Links Review - Alderney Public Hearing

Friday 20 February 2015

The Scrutiny Committee will be holding a public hearing in Alderney as part of its review into the Security of Strategic Air Links.

The public hearing will form part of the Scrutiny Committee's review into the Security of Strategic Air Links and follows a comprehensive consultation and information gathering exercise. Subsequent public hearings will follow in Guernsey in the near future.

The public hearing will be held in the Island Hall, Alderney from 17:30 until 19:30 on Monday 2 March. The Scrutiny Committee Air Links panel will hear evidence from States of Alderney representatives, as well as other key contributors to the consultation and information gathering exercise.

Witnesses will be questioned on key areas which the Committee has identified relating to Alderney's strategic air links.

The Air Links panel comprises Deputies Paul Le Pelley (chair), Barry Paint, Lester Queripel, Peter Sherbourne and Arrun Wilkie.

Deputy Paul Le Pelley said:

"The Scrutiny Panel identified at an early stage that a public hearing in Alderney would be of immense value to this review. We have seen from the written evidence received that the security of strategic air links is a critical issue to the island of Alderney at the present time as it seeks to address concerns over economic decline and depopulation. We are pleased to be able to offer Alderney representatives a chance to voice their concerns at this public hearing, which will be followed by public hearings in Guernsey in due course."

Members of the public are welcome to attend the public hearings in an observational capacity. Alderney residents are requested to make their views on this issue known to their elected representatives in advance of the hearing.
