Draft Island Development Plan 'Initial Representation' deadline extended

Wednesday 08 April 2015

Owing to the significant level of interest in the Draft Island Development Plan, the Planning Inspectors have agreed to extend the period for accepting Initial Representations until midnight on Monday 13th April.

The Initial Representation period for the Draft Island Development Plan is due to close at the end of this week. There has been significant interest in the draft Plan and the Planning Inquiry team has spoken to hundreds of people at public drop-in sessions, over the telephone and at the Planning Inquiry Team offices at Sir Charles Frossard House. The online version of the Draft Island Development Plan has also proved to be particularly popular. Since the Planning Inquiry opened on the 16th February, the online Proposals Map has been viewed by approximately 10,000 people.

The Chief Minister stated: "We are very pleased with the level of public interest in the Draft Island Development Plan and in order to ensure the public have every opportunity to submit the representations they wish to make, the Planning Inspectors have extended the submission date for this Initial Representations Period to Monday 13th April. This will enable people to finalise their submissions over the weekend and to submit them on Monday."

Following the closure of the 'Initial Representations' stage there will be a short administrative period to enable the representations to be collated and for the Environment Department to consider them and provide a response. These responses will be made public at the next stage of the process. This next stage will give an opportunity for individuals, groups, companies, societies, agents, etc. to make written comments on the Initial Representations. 'Further Representations' can be made during a six week period from Monday 11th May 2015 to 5.00pm on Friday 26th June 2015.

The online system and detailed guidance on how to make representations can be accessed through www.gov.gg/planninginquiry. It is important that anybody who has an interest in the Draft Island Development Plan submit their comments during the Initial Representation period, which now closes at midnight on Monday 13th April 2015, regardless of whether they agree or disagree with the policies contained within Draft Island Development Plan as it is equally important that these views and the reasons for them are presented to the Planning Inspectors via the online system or by using the approved form.
