Update - Salerie Slipway Access

Friday 17 July 2015

Media Enquiry from Guernsey Press:

We have just noticed Active Travel has tweeted about the Salerie slipway access is now closed and that boat trailers will need to circulate around the main car park.

Could we get it confirmed from Environment that the work has now finished?

What exactly has the work involved?

Could the department just explain the correct arrangements for those with small boat trailers and large boat hauliers?

How much has the new arrangements cost?

Any other comments.

I know it is much later in the day now but it is possible to get something for tomorrow's paper it would be much appreciated.

Environment Department Response:

The Environment Department can confirm that the works to close off La Salerie slipway access are now complete aside from seeding the grass on the re-profiled mound adjacent to the new exit lane linking the slipway with the main car park.  The re-seeding will take place in the autumn.

The works have involved the installation of 4 removable bollards to close off the slipway access to vehicular traffic, removal of part of the grass mound to create the exit lane, relocation of a street lamp and reorganisation of parking bays to facilitate trailered boats circulating around the perimeter of the car park.  The final accounts have not been received for the scheme at this time but £20,000 has been budgeted for all of the work.

Commercial boat hauliers have already been advised of the new arrangements and of the process to obtain the keys to remove the bollards should they need to move a boat and trailer combination exceeding 12.19m long and 2.5m wide.  Any private individuals who move boats exceeding this length or width are advised to contact the Traffic Services Unit on tel 243400 for further advice.
