Town Quay Traffic Layout - Update

Monday 24 August 2015

As previously advised, due to heavy rain on Sunday morning it was not possible to carry out the necessary changes to the road markings along the Town seafront in order to be able to reintroduce two southbound traffic lanes.

Whilst it is desirable for all the painting work to be carried out in a single day and a Sunday had previously been considered the most appropriate day when traffic flows are lower, the Environment Department is aware that the waterfront marathon is planned for this coming Sunday.  Rather than have another fortnight's delay, the Department has been in discussions with our contractor today in order to determine how best to expedite these works.  On the basis of these discussions, the Department can announce that the following course of action is now planned.

The works will now be carried out on two separate days between the hours of 04:30hrs and 07:00hrs.  Weather permitting, the first stage of the works will be carried out on Thursday morning and this will not require a closure, but some traffic management will be in place and drivers are asked to drive slowly and take care when passing through this area.

Assuming that the weather does not hamper works on Thursday, then the second stage of the works will take place on Friday between 04:30hrs and 07:00hrs.  This will require a closure of the Town Quay and will hopefully see completion of all the remaining work enabling the reintroduction of two southbound lanes.

Saturday 29th August and Tuesday 1st September have been kept as 'back-up days' should the weather prevent work taking place on either of the aforementioned dates.
