Islanders can now 'follow' the local weather throughout the day, wherever they are thanks to a new Guernsey Met Office Twitter account.
The new 24/7 service will have the latest weather forecasts, published four times daily, as well as other meteorological information such as strong winds or tide warnings.
It is also expected to feature occasional local weather facts and headlines, such as monthly rainfall data and peak conditions, as well as any new records set.
The new service, at www.twitter.com/GuernseyMet or @GuernseyMet, has been launched in response to public feedback and is expected to attract a lot of local followers. The equivalent feed from Jersey Met Office has more than 5,300, while the UK's has more than 300,000.
Senior Met Officer Martin Crozier said:
'We carry out consultations from time to time where we ask what services the public would like from the Guernsey Met Office. Some of the feedback from the last one, in August this year, was they would like to be able to access regular updates through Twitter,' said.
'Anyone with a Twitter Account will now have direct access to the latest weather information, wherever they are if they have a computer, tablet or smartphone. Every night there will be a look ahead to the following day's forecast, then updates from the early hours of the morning and throughout the day.
'We'll also try to include the occasional information which is of general interest. For instance if we have a spectacular storm, we'll look at publishing what the rainfall was and the peak wind speeds, and we can sometimes share weather pictures that islanders have taken.'
Guernsey Airport's website also includes a dedicated section providing daily weather information, which features the latest updates from the Guernsey Met Office as well as a link through to the new Twitter feed. This can be found at www.airport.gg/weather.
