Free kerbside bags still in store at local shops

Wednesday 30 September 2015

Islanders who need more kerbside recycling bags can still pick them up for free from local supermarkets.

Vouchers were sent out to households last year, which can be exchanged for a new supply of the clear and blue bags.  More than half have now collected another set of bags, having used up the rolls that were originally delivered when kerbside collections started in March 2014.  Others have their vouchers, but have yet to redeem them.

However if you need more bags but do not have a voucher, you can still get one by sending your address details by email to recycle@gov.gg or in a message via www.facebook.com/recycleforgsy.   Alternatively, you can call the kerbside hotline on 01481 231234.

Public Services recycling officer Tina Norman-Ross said vouchers are also available from Parish Constables Offices.

"The vouchers just provide some basic stock control, and a way for us to track how many we have going out and where the demand is.  The bags are still free, but they cost money to produce so we want to ensure there are enough to go around for everyone who needs them.

"We knew after we did the initial delivery of leaflets that quite a few may have been mistaken for junk mail and recycled, because they showed up in some people's kerbside bags.  Since then we have had a number of islanders get in contact, either to find out where to get hold of more bags, or in response to notices we have put out through social media.

"However we know there are still people who do not have a voucher and may not know how to get one.    If they just contact us by phone, email, or via Facebook, we can arrange one for them.  If they haven't already run out, they'll find our contact details on the bags themselves"

The kerbside bags can be collected from the main local grocery stores:-

"Most people should have somewhere convenient nearby that they can collect from.  All they need is the voucher, which they will be able to exchange for a roll of blue bags and a roll of clear bags."
