Environment response to a media enquiry from the Guernsey Press
Media Enquiry from Guernsey Press:
Is it possible to have a list of which other coastal defences are being considered from the strategic outline portfolio?
Also, how much risk is there considered to be of further damage or collapse at Fermain?
Environment Department Response:
It is possible that the wall at Fermain could be further damaged by storm conditions during the highest tides. However, the condition of the wall and the slope of the soft cliff behind the damaged section did not deteriorate to any measurable extent over winter 2014/15. It was also noted that there was no change in the wall or the soft cliff following the recent 10m+ high tides which coincided with several days of easterly winds.
The other priority repair areas are:
Strategic defences - East coast:
Longstore slipway wall and nearby concrete apron repairs
Admiral Park
St George's Esplanade
Area opposite Red Lion
Strategic defences - West coast:
Perelle
Fort Grey - sea walls to north and south
Vazon
Rocque Poisson, L'Eree
Cobo
Croix Martin/Le Catioroc
Grand Port, L'Eree
Other damage:
L'Ancresse East
Fermain
