Living in Guernsey

Smith street

The Bailiwick of Guernsey is a beautiful, vibrant and safe place to live, a thriving and entirely modern community that maintains a healthy respect for its culture and traditional values.  Situated in the Bay of St Malo we are geographically closer to France, only 27 miles from their coast, and 70 miles from mainland Britain.  Our loyalty, however, is to the British Crown although we are self-governing.

There are currently more than 60,000 inhabitants living in Guernsey on just over 78km2 of land.

Limited space together with the many positive reasons to live here, mean that are certain requirements you will need to meet if you are not a qualified local resident but would like to move to Guernsey.  The pages of this section will provide some practical information for people already resident in Guernsey and also those wishing to move here.
