Commerce and Employment
The Department has a wide portfolio and covers a diverse range of services and activities, these are serviced by the five business units and affiliated outside agencies.
The Economic Development Unit and Business Guernsey seek to encourage local businesses and look for ways to promote a positive environment in which to conduct business on Guernsey - affiliated to this unit are The Guernsey Enterprise Agency (GEA) and The Guernsey Training Agency University Centre and CICRA, the independent regulatory agency established by the States of Guernsey.
The Finance Sector Development Unit (including the Guernsey Registry : Company Registry and Intellectual Property Office) service the needs of the Financial Services sector in liaison with Guernsey Finance and the GFSC, to ensure that promotional activities and regulation work in step with each other.
Marketing and Tourism manage relations with the industry and promotion of Guernsey. The unit also promotes the Guernsey Awards for Achievement and looks after the overall image identity for the States of Guernsey.
Health and Safety, Employment Relations, Trading Standards, The Dairy and Farming, Agricultural and Rural Services, Animal Welfare, Plant Health, Sea Fisheries and States Veterinary Officer are all part of the Client Services Unit.
Civil Aviation - the Director of Civil Aviation for both Guernsey and Jersey is based at the Offices in Raymond Falla House and works closely with Guernsey Airport.
Administration and Central Resources are responsible for servicing the needs of the five business units.
The Commerce and Employment Department is committed to delivering the objectives in the States Strategic Plan endorsed by the States and deliver its mandate. The Business Plan sets out what the Department intends to achieve in the current year and provides a means for both internal and external audiences to assess the Department's performance. In the second part of the Business Plan - detailed tables of the intended work streams and priorities for the Department for that year are set out - it should, however, be noted that they may be subject to change in response to issues that may arise in the course of the year.
The Department's main offices are at Raymond Falla House, Burnt Lane, St Martins, with the Guernsey Registry based at the Markets Building in St Peter Port.
