Alderney
Alderney is the third largest of the Channel Islands at one and a half miles wide and three and a half miles long. It has two thousand inhabitants. It is 8 miles from the coast of mainland France and 23 miles from Guernsey.
The Island is well-known for its wildlife and is a magnet for species of birds and other animals found in mainland Europe but not in Britain.
Many islanders have taken a keen interest in their natural heritage and the famous blonde hedgehogs have their home in Alderney.
