Statutory Bodies

There are a number of statutory bodies and statutory officials in Guernsey. They have been established to undertake various regulatory functions as follows:

Guernsey Financial Services Commission - regulation and supervision of financial services.

Office of Utility Regulation* - regulation of the telecoms postal and electricity sectors.

Data Protection Commissioner * - development and enforcement of data protection legislation.

Director of Civil Aviation * - ensuring the safety of civil aviation.

Registrar of Companies - advise on the registration, regulation, governance and administration of companies and relevant law, practice and procedures.

Registrar of Intellectual Property - advise on the registration, administration, protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights and relevant law, practice and procedures.

Director of Environmental Health & Pollution Regulation* - various functions under environmental pollution legislation, including the licensing of a number of activities, such as waste disposal.

Employment and Discrimination Tribunal - hears and determines claims regarding discrimination on the grounds of gender, married status or gender reassignment, victimisation, Sunday work, unfair dismissal and other matters relating to dismissal and minimum wage.
