Applications under building regulations
If you are carrying out building work you may need to make an application for a licence under the Building Regulations.
You will need to pay a fee to make an application and the cost will vary depending on the type of work you are carrying out.
In this section you can find information on the following:
- Applications under building regulations and fees
- Choosing traders and service providers
- When Building Control permission is not required
- Building Control Advice
You can also:
- Download application forms
- Speak to a Building Control Surveyor
Applications under the Building Regulations are separate to applications for planning permission. For information on making a planning application go to that section.
Some types of works do not require a full application for a licence under Building Regulations - you just need to send a notification to the Environment Department instead. These are known as 'exempt buildings and work' and are listed in Schedule 2 of the Building Regulations. You can find out more about Building Control exempt buildings and work and the notification process in the section 'Do I need Permission.'
