Speak to a planning officer

If you have a query about a planning matter you can contact us for further information.

By phone

For general planning advice phone 01481 717200 or come to the Environment Department reception desk at Sir Charles Frossard House and ask to speak to the duty planner.

Please note, the duty planner is able to provide general guidance only. To discuss an application that has already been submitted, please contact the allocated Planning Officer.

Written advice

If you have not yet made a planning application, you can request written advice regarding:

  • Whether planning permission is required
  • Planning exemptions
  • Requests for opinions on planning proposals (i.e. whether what you are proposing is likely to be acceptable under planning policy)
  • EIA screening - some development may require an Environmental Impact Assessment. The pre-application enquiry service can provide you with advice on whether your proposal is one of these projects.

The Pre-Application Enquiry service is free. Please use the 'Pre Application Enquiry Form' to submit your request for written advice. The form can be downloaded below.

Schedule a meeting

In some instances a meeting with a Planning or Building Control Officer is useful and can be used to discuss specific proposals, although it should be noted that any advice provided is without prejudice to formal consideration of the planning application.

Download the note 'Meetings with Planning & Building Control Staff' for detailed information.
