Business Visitors (non-EEA Nationals)
As a Business Visitor you must be able to show that;
- you want to visit the Bailiwick of Guernsey for no more than six months or if seeking to enter as an Academic visitor for no more than 12 months
- you intend to leave the Bailiwick of Guernsey at the end of your visit
- you have enough money to support yourself during your visit without working or recourse to public funds
- you are able to meet the cost of the return or onward journey.
As a Business Visitor, you can;
- attend meetings or conferences;
- arrange deals, negotiating or signing trade agreements or contracts;
- undertake fact finding missions provided the information is of benefit to a branch abroad only, checking details or goods;
- conduct site visits and promotional activities.
- take part in a location shoot as a member of a film crew;
- represent overseas-based news media including as a journalist, correspondent, producer or cameraman, but only if he is employed or paid by an overseas company and is gathering information for an overseas publication;
- act as an Academic Visitor, but only if he has been working as an academic in an institution of higher education overseas, or in the field of his academic expertise immediately prior to seeking entry;
- undertake some preaching or pastoral work as a religious worker, but only if his base is abroad and he is not taking up an office, post or appointment;
- undertake specific, one-off training in techniques and work practices used in the Bailiwick of Guernsey but only if this is not on-the-job training.
- deliver goods and passengers from abroad provided you are genuinely working on an international route
- enter as a representative of a foreign company to service, repair or install their products.
- represent computer software companies by coming to install, debug or enhance their products.
- Representatives of such companies may also be admitted as business visitors in order to be briefed as to the requirements of a Bailiwick of Guernsey customer but if they are to provide a service involving the use of their expertise to make a detailed assessment of a potential customer's requirements this should be regarded as consultancy work for which a work permit is required
- represent foreign manufacturers by coming to service or repair their company's products within their initial period of guarantee
- represent foreign machine manufacturers by coming to erect and install machinery too heavy to be delivered in one piece, as part of the contract of purchase and supply
- interpret or translate for visiting business persons provided the interpreter / translator is employed by the overseas company and is coming solely to provide this service for the visiting company member
- erect, dismantle, install, service, repair or advise on the development of foreign-made machinery
- attend board-level directors' meetings in the Bailiwick of Guernsey provided you are not employed by a Bailiwick of Guernsey company, although you may be paid a fee for attending the meeting
A Business visitor cannot;
- take paid or unpaid employment
- produce goods or provide services including the selling of goods or services within the Bailiwick of Guernsey
- undertake a course of study
- be a child under the age of 18
- intend to marry
- intend to receive medical treatment
The maximum period allowed as a Business visitor is 6 months or, in the case of an Academic Visitor, 12 months.
Visa Nationals
Visa nationals need a visa to enter the Bailiwick of Guernsey, for whatever purpose including a visit. This must be applied for, before travelling, at a British Diplomatic post designated for the purpose of issuing visas.
