Population

The Population Bulletin is published annually and contains a comprehensive collection of population data derived from administrative sources.

The last census in Guernsey was held on 29th April 2001 and a reliable method for counting the population using administrative records was developed in 2006. The method was further developed to include counts of births, deaths, immigration and emigration from 2008.

In 2010, the States directed the Policy Council to progress the development of a fully electronic system for reporting population data (sourced from administrative records) instead of running a traditional census in 2011. This project is due to be completed in 2014 and will provide a permanent method for reporting population data, including population by parish and other information, which was previously collected via a census.
