Health and Safety

The Health and Safety Executive is a section of the Commerce and Employment Department.

It is an advisor and regulator in all matters relating to occupational Health and Safety in the islands. The focus of the Executive is in promoting safe and healthy working practices and reducing to a minimum the number of incidents that happen within the workplace. The work of the Executive applies to all work places, work activities and circumstances where these pose a risk to the public at large.

The Executive, through a close working relationship with their colleagues in the UK, Jersey and Isle of Man, maintains a watching brief on changes to Health and Safety legislation and practices in the UK and internationally, and brings forward to the Department appropriate recommendations for amendment to the local Health and Safety legislative framework

Licences and Permits

Certain activities, such as the erection of scaffolds on or over a public highway or the commercial storage of petroleum, require a licence. For further information and appropriate application forms, see the relevant sections available from the menu on the left of this page.

Video Library

Videos are available on free loan from the Health and Safety Executive for a period of 5 working days.

Any additional length of time hired will be charged at a rate of £2.00 per working day unless prior arrangements have been made.

Persons who accidentally damage or lose any video, may be liable to replacement costs.
