Importing Animal Products

Animal products are anything obtained from an animal for human consumption and include fresh meat, meat products, meat preparations and milk products.

Imports from Alderney, Sark and Jersey

Animal products produced in Alderney, Sark and Jersey can be imported into Guernsey without a licence provided that the relevant Island is not subject to foot and mouth disease restrictions.

Imports from the United Kingdom

Animal products produced in the United Kingdom can be imported into Guernsey without a licence provided that they comply with the food hygiene and labelling requirements of the Food Standards Agency or the European Union and no part of the UK is subject to foot and mouth disease restrictions.

Imports from the European Union

Animal products produced in a Member State of the European Union can be imported into Guernsey without a licence provided that they comply EU food hygiene and labelling requirements. Further details of these requirements can be downloaded below.

The health and labelling requirements do not apply to animal products produced in a Member State of the European Union that are intended for personal consumption provided that the amount imported does not exceed 10kg in weight and the place in which they were produced is not subject to foot and mouth disease restrictions.

Imports from other Countries and Territories

Animal products produced in other countries and territories can be imported into Guernsey without a licence provided that they comply with European Union food hygiene and labelling requirements and have first been imported through an EU Border Inspection Post.
