Absence & Sickness Management
There are a number of reasons why people are absent from work.
People are usually absent from work because:
· they are sick
· they cannot come to work due to family/childcare issues
· they are on authorised leave, e.g. holiday, maternity leave or a training course
Unauthorised absence is costly to an organisation and may lead to disciplinary action and potentially, dismissal. Absence through ill health should be managed carefully and sensitively. The Employment Guide to Absence & Sickness Management details the process you may wish to follow if absenteeism is causing the organisation difficulties.
