Guernsey Overseas Aid Commission - Commission Members

Saturday 31 March 2012

The Policy Council is seeking expressions of interest from local residents wishing to be considered as future members of the Guernsey Overseas Aid Commission.

The Commission comprises of seven members who each serve four year terms. Their work takes place in Guernsey. Commissioners are not remunerated.

Commissioners meet on several occasions each year to allocate the Commission's budget (provided by the States of Guernsey) by considering grant aid applications, emergency aid donations and reviewing reports received from agencies and NGOs for projects funded during the previous year.

Whilst there are no formal qualifications required, a proven commitment, interest and experience in overseas aid related matters are highly desirable, with an ability to analyse and judge the merit of applications seeking aid to projects in the developing world. Whilst basic training will be provided, Commissioners are expected to work largely on their own initiative and in their own time.

A Policy Council spokesperson said:

"The opportunity to serve on the Guernsey Overseas Aid Commission is a chance to make a real difference to the lives of people around the world. The Policy Council would like to hear from anyone who would wishes to take on this responsible and rewarding role".

CVs with a covering letter from anyone interested in being considered should be sent to the Commission's Secretary Guernsey Overseas Aid Commission.  Please visit the Guernsey Overseas Aid Commission website for further information.
