Commemorative Coin Issue
THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE CORONATION OF HER MAJESTY QUEEN ELIZABETH II
The Advisory and Finance Committee announces an issue of Guernsey coins struck by the Royal Mint, to celebrate the Golden Jubilee and 50th Anniversary of the Coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
The first is a limited edition Coronation Jubilee Kilo coin struck in fine silver. The coin has an outer ring highlighted with 24-carat gold and is finished to a high proof standard. Weighing exactly 1 kilo and measuring 100mm in diameter, it is by far the largest Guernsey commemorative coin issued to date.
The reverse of the coin features a panoramic view of Buckingham Palace with an edge detail of the Coronation Coach procession. The obverse has the popular portrait of Her Majesty by Ian Rank-Broadley and the date '2003'.

Following on from the popular issue in 2002 depicting the Queen in her carriage, a second issue continues the celebration of Her Majesty's Golden Jubilee with coins struck in gold, silver (with gold cameo) and brilliant uncirculated base metal, each portraying the Royal Standard with the Queen's Guards on the reverse. The obverse has the portrait of Her Majesty by Ian Rank-Broadley and is dated '2003'.

Later in the year there will be a series of 50p pieces continuing the Coronation theme. Four different designs, each produced in silver and cupro-nickel are due to be issued in stages over the coming months.
Jersey and Alderney are also planning a similar issue.
