Implementation of the European Directive on Privacy in Electronic Communications
The European Communities (Implementation of Council Directive on Privacy and Electronic Communications) (Guernsey) Ordinance, 2004
This Ordinance came into force on 1st July 2004.
The regulations accord closely with those which came into force in the UK at the end of 2003. Similar regulations have been enacted in Alderney and in Sark.
The Information Commissioner has published guidance on the UK regulations and Bailiwick versions will be available in due course.
The Bailiwick Commissioner has published specific guidance on the Preference Services, on respecting the privacy of Telephone Subscribers with regard to directories and on Privacy Statements on Websites.
Forms are available for those who wish to complain about unsolicited communications:
- complaints about telesales
- complaints about faxes
- complaints about automated calls
- complaints about emails or sms messages
