‘Abteilung’ (translated as ‘Departure’) - Fiona Crisp 15th September - 12th October 2006
This exhibition featured a series of five large-scale photographic works from the German Military Underground Hospital. For several years Fiona Crisp has been making photographic works in spaces that were similarly built for a specific purpose but which now exist as tourist or heritage sites.
'SNAPSHOT GUERNSEY 2006'
18th October - 3rd November 2006.
SNAPSHOT was a collaborative project with the aim to get as many 11 - 19 year olds as possible to digitally photograph what they were all doing at one specific moment in time. This joint initiative between Arts Development and the Guernsey Sports Commission highlighted the fact that the youth of Guernsey were involved in positive, constructive hobbies and pastimes.
'My Paint Tin Weighs a Ton' - Mysterious Al and Matt Sewell

This exhibition featured a bold and colourful piece of street art covering the walls of the greenhouse. The mural was conceived and painted by graffiti artists Mysterious Al and Matt Sewell, who are two of the world's most respected artists of this genre. 'Space Invaders' - Mary Thompson and Peter Root
25th January - 23rd February 2007
Two local artists, Mary Thompson and Peter Root, put together a time-based colloborative installation piece using a kit of everyday objects and materials, motion-sensitive machines and high density assemblages. The installation was an exploration of three-dimensional drawing in its broadest sense.
'Frances Lemmon'
23rd March - 27th April 2007
Frances showed a series of paintings based on the folklore tales of Guernsey, featuring Guernsey-French translations of the stories' roots. 'Poets in Motion' colloborated with the re-nowned local artist by offering workshops examing the use of words and design.
'Moving Memories'
9th - 12th May 2007
A series of films were shown on and after Liberation Day in the greenhouse. The two films, presented by CineGuernsey, included footage drawn from the Guernsey film archives incorporating news reporting of the time, propaganda material and footage taken by photographic enthusiasts from off and on the island.
'Glimpses of Guernsey'
15th May - 23rd May 2007
A collaboration with the College of Further Education, 'Glimpses of Guernsey' was an opportunity to pre-view the photographs commissioned by the States of Guernsey's Policy Council for future display in Sir Charles Frossard House. These were taken by the College of Further Education’s HND Fine Arts students and the project covered a professional practice unit of the students' qualification.
'Heads and Hands' - Gary Schneider
1st June - 29th June 2007
New York artist, Gary Schneider showed a series of works focused on his work depicting the human body. Gary is well respected in the contemporary art scene with his work represented in many public collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York and the Art Institute in Chicago. Gary was also the first 'artist-in-residence' in the greenhouse, a scheme co-organised with the College of Further Educations Art & Design section.
'Drawings from Sark' - Clare Belfield
18th July - 30th September 2007
Clare's dramatic and detailed charcoal drawings were inspired by "...the island's soft, low outline....gullies and large outcrops...headlands like a giant lion's paw lying in the water". Clare has been visiting Sark for 40 years and the exhibition was a celebration of the island's environment.
'Interpreting Images' - The Big Draw 2007

The Big Draw 2007, the UK's biggest annual free art event initiated by Campaign for Drawing. The Guernsey based event 'Interpreting Images' was a series of workshops, involving local primary schools and members of the public, culminating in an exhibition of the work produced. Local artist Kat Mather led the workshops and curated the exhibition.
Off the Page - An Exhibition of Artists' Books 30th November 2007 - 31st January 2008
Off the Page was an introductory exhibition to the innvoative and contemporary art form known as the Artist's Book. Designed orginally in the 1960's as a way to reach a braoder audience through artists self-publishing their work and also a way to bypass the constraints of the gallery. Combining digital and tradtional techniques, the Artist's Book is flourishing and evolving into a significant and current art form. Off the Page was an interactive exhibition with the books on show available to be handled and explored. Leading UK Book Artist, Jonathan Ward, travelled to Guernsey to lead workshops, schools talks and public lectures. Books on show were on loan from UWE Centre for Fine Print Research, Jonathan Ward and also private collections.
the greenhouse also collaborated with the Guilles Alles Library for this exhibition, creating a joint bookmark and there were also displays throughout the library giving information about the art form, including a selection of Artists' Books.
Eye to Eye: Photographs by Phil Sayer 14th Februaray - 27th March
Phil Sayer's exhibition 'Eye to Eye' focused on well-known artists, architects and designers of our time photographed in their studios or workspaces. Portraits included those of Vivienne Westwood, Antony Gormley, David Hockney and Paul Smith. Phil Sayer, based in London, has been working as a freelance photographer since 1969. During his long career he has contributed to many prestigious magazines and was part of a small group of journalists and designers to help found 'Blueprint' magazine in 1984.
PUBLIC ART - part one: 11th April - 19th June 2008
An exhibition which explored art in the public realm, considering its breadth and positive impact on the local community. As part of the Guernsey Arts Commission's mandate to raise the profile and provision of Public Art in the island, this exhibition considered the possible adoption of Public Art in Guernsey. With examples from leading British sculptor Antony Gormley and various artists around the globe.
PENS & LENS: 26th July - 17th July 2008
An exhibition organised by the film, writers and poets Sub-Committee of the Guernsey Arts Commission of locally sourced literature and short films. The aim of the exhibition was to mingle the written and the spoken word together with film in an effort to encourge a wider audience to see that the poetic can speak to everyone. Scheduled workshops and events occurred throughout the three week exhibition involving the local community.
