Guernsey Sports Commission
The Guernsey Sports Commission opened for business as a company limited by guarantee on the 9 February 2004. It was conceived following the review of the Machinery of Government which in itself prompted a rethink of how sports development was provided and funded.
This had previously been undertaken by the Recreation Committee, a Government based body. The Guernsey Sports Commission reports to the Ministry for Culture and Leisure under the new governmental structure but is not in itself a government body.
The Commission therefore is in a unique position to bring together both public and private funding for sport in the Island together with co-ordinated representation of all sporting organisations. It ensures therefore an independent and powerful “Voice for Sport” representing a wide range of sporting interests and organisations.
In conjunction with Fuse2 and Small Design Ltd, the Commission set up its own website at the beginning of 2006, which contains detailed information on the work of the Commission, its Sports Development Officers, how to apply for a grant from the Sports Development Fund, and much much more.
