Museum Services
What do Castle Cornet, Chateau des Marais, the Fairy Ring at Pleinmont and Beaucette Battery all have in common? Apart from the fact that they are all local historic sites, they are also owned by the Department, and overseen by Museum Services.
In fact, Museum Services' mandate covers the maintenance and care of over 80 historic sites ranging from the Island's showpiece sites like the Castle and Fort Grey, to the small monuments and dolmens found on so many of Guernsey's coastlines. The section's responsibility also stretches to the care and interpretation of thousands of valuable museum collections and objects, managing a programme of field archaeology and organising rescue archaeology.
The collections in the care of Museum Services range from ancient texts to early firearms, and from valuable paintings to suits of armour. Thanks to an exciting partnership with Fitzgeralds Photography Services, images of some of the collections can be purchased online, by clicking on http://3294.e-printphoto.co.uk/gmag.
A large part of Museum Services work involves the creation of exhibitions, utilising museum space at Guernsey Museum & Art Gallery and Castle Cornet. For details on the exhibitions that are taking place at the moment, please click on www.museums.gov.gg. This site will also give you information on the four museums looked after by Museum Services (Castle Cornet, Guernsey Museum, Fort Grey and the Telephone Museum) such as admission prices, opening hours, and details of some of the objects held within the museums.
For those of you who are interested in visiting these museums, the cheapest and easiest way to do it is to purchase a Heritage Discovery Pass for a small fee. This allows you to gain free admission not only to the four museums in Guernsey, but museums and galleries in Jersey and Alderney as well, as listed below:
GUERNSEY

- Castle Cornet and its museums
- Fort Grey Shipwreck Museum
JERSEY
