Parks and Gardens

Guernsey has a rich horticultural heritage and this is reflected in many of its parks and gardens. The Environment Department looks after over 30 sites island-wide, including Saumarez Park and Candie Gardens.

Candie Gardens Both Saumarez Park and Candie Gardens are important in terms of their botanical and historical heritage, with collections of plants from around the world.

Carefully devised management plans provide for the sympathetic and efficient management of these popular recreational areas. With their overall appeal to residents and visitors, children and adults, the two areas provide a focus for much of Island life all year round.

The gardens are maintained under contract by the Parks and Gardens Section of the Public Services Department. Parks and Gardens is responsible for cultivating many different species of flowers and plants for use around the Island, including the spectacular displays in St Peter Port and St Sampson’s which contribute so colourfully to Floral Guernsey.
