About Scrutiny
This page provides an introduction to the work of the Scrutiny Committee, which is mandated to scrutinise and challenge the effectiveness of States policies and service delivery.
The Scrutiny Committee was formed in May 2004 and is one of the scrutiny mechanisms in place within the new machinery of government.
Our Mandate is, through a process of political scrutiny, to subject Departments and Committees to regular reviews to determine the effectiveness of government policies and services.
The Committee has issued a leaflet "About Scrutiny" aimed at all those elected to serve as States Members for the next term (which can be downloaded following the link to the right of this page).
The Committee's current objectives and aims are available for download.
The Committee has close links to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to ensure there is appropriate coordination of the entire scrutiny process. A paper outlining the difference in roles between the Scrutiny Committee and PAC is available to download from a link to the right of this page.
The Committee has been developing its role in relation to the Government Business Plan (GBP) and links are provided on this page explaining Scrutiny's initial role in the policy planning process, which will develop as the GBP itself develops.
Our Guide to Scrutiny in Guernsey and other Guidelines on our processes and procedures can be downloaded from the links provided on this page, together with guidance documents for those giving evidence to Scrutiny.
If you have any suggestions, comments, or questions concerning scrutiny, then we would be pleased for you to contact us at scrutiny@gov.gg or telephone 01481 717000.
The pages on this website are continually under development and we would welcome feedback or any suggestions for improvement.
