The staff work closely with the Committee Members to develop the scrutiny function and provide a dedicated support for, and management of, the scrutiny process. The duties of the staff include:
- Advising on all areas of the Scrutiny Committee’s work.
- Assuming responsibility for the organisation, co-ordination, management and delivery of the Committee’s rolling programme of reviews.
- Supporting the meetings of the Committee, providing procedural advice and ensuring compliance with protocols and procedures.
- Assisting in identifying topics for review, drafting work programmes, carrying out research, preparing briefing papers, collecting information and drafting reports.
- Engaging specialist advisors.
- Overseeing the publication and distribution of reports.
- Dealing with correspondence and queries from the public and the media.
- Liaising with departments, the public, pressure groups, stakeholders, witnesses, external bodies and other jurisdictions.
- Developing training.
- Developing protocols and procedures.
- Contributing to and maintaining a close dialogue with the Public Accounts Committee to ensure there is proper co-ordination of the entire scrutiny process.
