How can members of the public get involved in scrutiny?

The Committee’s relationship with the general public is crucial to its core values and the successful delivery of its mandate. A fundamental principle of scrutiny is to have an open and transparent process and to hold government to account for its decisions on behalf of the community it is intended to serve.

The Committee aims to encourage accessibility to, and public participation in, the scrutiny process and has an objective to reflect the concerns of the public in its investigations.

Submit your topics for scrutiny
Is there an issue you feel that Scrutiny should be looking at?  The Committee welcomes suggestions for Review subjects.  Of course we cannot look at everything and we have strict criteria for subjects that are suitable for scrutiny investigation.  The criteria for topic selection are set out in the Criteria for Scrutiny Subjects Form, which can be downloaded following the links to the right of this page.

If you would like to submit a suggestion for a subject for scrutiny, please feel free to write to us by post or email, outlining the reasons why you feel it would be a suitable topic for investigation.  If you would like advice before submitting your suggestion then please feel free to contact the Committee’s staff on 717223.

Publication of your submission

The Committee has a policy of full disclosure of all the information relevant to a particular Review topic.  However, your personal details will not be published without your permission!  The Committee does not accept anonymous submissions but it will make submissions anonymous before publication where appropriate.  It would be of great help to the Committee's staff if you could indicate at the time you submit your views whether you are happy for these to be published in full or in part should they prove to be relevant to a Scrutiny investigation.  There is a standard cover sheet that you can download from the link to the right and send to us by email or post together with your submission.

General feedback
Scrutiny is an evolving process and we are always looking for ways to improve.  Let us know how you think we are doing and what we could do better.  Have you contributed towards a Scrutiny investigation?  What was your experience of the scrutiny process?  If you have any views, suggestions or questions on the role, processes or procedures of Scrutiny in Guernsey, then we would welcome hearing from you.
