Visits to Prisoners
Visits for social purposes are dependant upon privilege level. The higher the privilege level the more visits are received up to a maximum of 6 a month (a 28 day period).
Prisoners are able to book visits 48hrs in advance.
Visits take place in the Prison Visits Room at published times. Prisoners are permitted a maximum of two persons to visit, who are aged over 16 years old at any one visit unless they are immediate family aged under sixteen who may visit in addition to the aforementioned two persons aged over sixteen years. Prison staff supervising visits will allocate tables and seating. The visits area is non-smoking. Adult visitor(s) are required to produce identification each time they visit the prison.
Overseas Visits
Visits periods are specifically allocated on Saturday or Sunday morning for prisoners receiving visits from persons travelling to the island. These visits sessions may be taken back-to-back and on both the Saturday and Sunday to maximise time.
Family Visits
The Prison Service provides a facility for young children to visit their parent(s) on the last Wednesday afternoon of each month, irrespective of privilege level. Generally, this visit is undertaken between the prisoner parent and the child(ren) without the accompanying mother or father. Exceptions may be made, in the case of new born babies, for the mother to accompany on the first few visits based on an application from the prisoner parent.
Closed Visits
For security and administrative reasons, a prisoner may be placed on closed visits, which means that they will be placed in a special room designed for the purpose of physically segregating the prisoner from the visitor.
