Interesting Facts

Here you can find interesting information regarding the Island's water supply.

St Saviour's Dam

Guernsey Water's total volume of raw water storage is 4425 megalitres, that's enough to fill 54,112,500 baths. However we supply over 5000 megalitres of clean drinking water to the public every year so it is vital that this storage is constantly replenished.

More than 5000 samples of water are taken and analysed each year by our Catchment Protection team to ensure our water is clean and safe to drink.

We use nearly 140 litres of water a day in our homes, but our great grandparents managed with about 18 litres.

A garden hose or sprinkler can use almost as much water in an hour as an average family of four uses in a day.

One dripping tap can use at least 5,500 litres of water a year.
