Waste Disposal & Recycling
The Public Services Department acts as the Waste Disposal Authority and is responsible for implementing the Waste Disposal Plan and providing various waste services and facilities.
It is responsible for: -
- Mont Cuet Waste Disposal Site
- Longue Hougue Waste Disposal Site
- Chouet Waste Disposal Site
- The Waste Segregation facility at Fontaine Vinery
- The Bulk Refuse Removal Scheme
- The Waste Recycling Facility at Longue Hougue
- Recycling

Forums
As well as meeting once a month as the Waste Disposal Authority, the Department has established two Forums:
- The Guernsey Recycling Advisory Forum, which advises the Waste Disposal Authority in respect of opportunities for recycling the Island's waste. The Forum comprises a number of representatives from public, private and voluntary bodies, including five members of the public. Meetings are held monthly. The Department is currently seeking new members for GRAF - follow the "Recycling" link to obtain an application form.
- The Waste Industry Forum, which advises the Authority on waste reduction, re-use and recycling opportunities and associated matters from the perspective of local industry/businesses. Attendance of the Forum is coordinated by the Chamber of Commerce. Meetings are held on a quarterly basis.
Waste Disposal and Recycling Information Line - 12077
The Department recognises that queries relating to waste disposal and recycling can come up at any time of the day or week. The Department has, therefore, set up a recorded local information line to assist with common queries, which is available 24 hours a day. The line can be accessed by telephoning 12077. Topics included on the line are:
- Landfill site opening times, charges and general information
- Bulk refuse scheme
- Disposal of scrap metal and other items that cannot be taken to the Island's bring banks
- Recycling bring bank location information
