Commercial Waste

Introduction

Guernsey needs to reduce the volume of waste currently going to landfill. It is estimated that Mont Cuet landfill site has only eight years before it is full.

Every type of business can help by:

  • Reducing the volume of waste produced
  • Re-using wherever feasible
  • Recycling as much as possible
  • Closing the loop – buying recycled products.

Householders have helped Guernsey to achieve a domestic recycling rate of 31.2% (December 2007) but we now urgently need the support of businesses, large and small, to play their part to reduce waste going to landfill.

Why manage commercial waste?

Effective waste management offers a range of benefits to all companies, including

  • cost savings
  • reduced environmental impact (especially important for Guernsey)
  • improved public perception
  • a competitive edge

Taking the first steps towards cutting the costs of your waste disposal and helping reduce the impact of your business waste on the environment is easy.
