Disabled Badge Scheme
General Information
The Environment Department operates a Disabled Badge Scheme for people who, because of age, illness, or disability have difficulty walking any distance, or are blind and require assistance in walking. The Badge permits the driver of a vehicle carrying a disabled person to park for up to two hours in half-hour and one-hour disc parking spaces, and to use special spaces allocated for disabled parking for unlimited periods. Badge holders must obey all other parking regulations, and may not park on yellow lines.
Parking spaces are provided for the holders of Disabled Badges throughout the Island and at the following locations within the main shopping areas:-
- Church Square (10am - 5pm, & 7pm - 7am)
- North Plantation (by the Tourist Information Centre)
- North Beach (near the toilets)
- Weighbridge taxi rank (9am-5pm)
- Hirzel Street (by the War Memorial)
- St Sampson's Bridge
The Disabled Badge is a light blue European-style parking card that shows the photograph and signature of the holder on the reverse of the card.
If you wish to apply for a Disabled Badge contact the Environment Department's Bulwer Avenue offices for an application form. The form includes a section which must be completed by your Doctor to confirm your disability and endorse the application. First time applicants who drive should also submit a full medical report completed by their Doctor.
Driving Abroad, or Disabled Visitors to Guernsey
The new blue parking card follows a standard European design that has been introduced across the EU and in some other additional European countries. Guernsey disabled badges will therefore be recognised and accepted in these other participating countries, enabling the holder to benefit from the disabled concessions in that country. A leaflet outlining the special arrangements made in other jurisdictions for disabled badge holders is available from the Department’s Bulwer Avenue offices.
In a reciprocal agreement, disabled visitors from any participating country will be entitled to local disabled parking concessions when they bring their badge to the Island.
