Resident's Parking Permits
These permits allow residents of disc parking zones to park their vehicles overnight until 9.30am the following morning in the roads listed on them, and also to re-park in the same zone within thirty minutes. The permit should be displayed on your dashboard along with your normal parking clock, which should be set at your time of arrival.
To apply for a permit simply contact the Traffic Services section who will be happy to send you an application form. Alternatively you can come to our offices in Bulwer Avenue to fill out the form or download the form from this page. You will need to know your vehicle registration number and the names of the streets in which you usually park.
Extended Permits for Residents Parking
This information is intended to offer an explanation to any resident about the manner in which the extended residents' parking scheme operates and to ensure that they can take full advantage of the concessions available.
In considering this matter, it is important to remember that disc parking areas operate on a 24-hour basis and you must set your parking clock whenever you park in such areas. The time limits only apply where the period concerned ends between 8.00am and 6.00pm. For instance, if a car is parked in a normal 2 hour zone at 3.30pm, it must be moved by 5.30pm. However, if the car is parked at 6.30pm in the same area, because the 2 hour period then ends at 8.30pm (i.e after the time restrictions have ended) the car can remain in the zone until 8.00am the following morning. For some time now, residents have had this period extended, by permit, until 9.30am the following morning.
Disc parking residents' parking scheme areas is set at a maximum of 2 hours and can continue to be used by any motorist. However, holders of the extended permit can overstay the disc parking period for an additional 10 hours, after which their vehicle must be moved. However, if the additional 10 hour period ends between 6pm and 8am, then the vehicle can rremain parked until 9.30am on the following morning. Vehicles can be re-parked in the same area within the normal 30 minute exclusion period.
For example, the 2 hour period for a person parking in one of the residential areas at 9.00am ends at 11.00am. That period is then extended for ten hours until 9.00pm. As the extended 10 hour period ends after 6.00pm, the vehicle can remain in the disc park until 9.30am the following morning. At this time, it must be moved, but can be re-parked within 30 minutes in the same area.
For a person that parked at 6.00am the 2 hour period would end at 8.00am. This would then be extended for 10 hours until 6.00pm, but again, this car could remain in place until 9.30am.
For a person that parked during the evening at, say, 10.00pm, the 2 hour period would end at midnight. This would be extended for 10 hours until 10.00am the following morning, at which time the car would need to be moved.
In broad terms, there will usually be a requirement to move your car once a day. Below there is a table giving a full list of sample parking times and the concessions then available.
