Employment related Right to Work Documents

There are two different types of employment-related housing licence and these are explained below.

"Essential" employment-related housing licences

As the name suggests, this type of licence can be issued if the job in question can be considered to be essential - not just to your business but to Guernsey's wider community.

Typically, these types of jobs need a person with professional qualifications and skills that are either not available in the Island, or are not available in sufficient quantity locally to meet the demand for them.

Non essential (short term) employment-related housing licences

This type of licence is usually issued for posts requiring less skills than those of 'essential' licence holders, where an employer is able to demonstrate that they have made a concerted effort to recruit locally but have been unable to do so.

Normally, short-term licences are issued for a period of 9 months, but, if the job in question is more skilled, it might be possible for a 3-year licence to be issued.
