Heritage, Leisure and The Arts
Our culture, our heritage, our wonderful coastal areas and the many opportunities for leisure activities all combine to make our Island a good place to live and work.
Encouraging our sports teams that travel to major events is important, those who aspire to greater things know they are representing their homeland and value highly the enthusiastic support they get from our people. Allowing our artists and musicians to develop their talents is of equal importance and the standard of artistic talent in Guernsey is quite astonishing for such a small community.
Our Guernsey French language, bean jar, euchre, hedge veg and gâche are examples of icons that are peculiar and unique to Guernsey along with our own banknotes, stamps, local dances and songs, our own breed of cattle and our own distinctive buildings.
The Culture and Leisure Department works with many individuals, groups and stakeholders investing today, for tomorrow. The Department supports disabled access, wherever possible, to its sites. More information on the States of Guernseys' collaboration with Disabledgo can be found here: http://www.disabledgo.com/en/org/guernsey-1
